About
“Back Brook Kennel” is named after a special place our children would go to play and have fun. The “Back Brook” is a special place that holds fond memories for the entire family. The “Back Brook”, named Hardy Brook, is a place where our children played, camped, had fun, explored, entertained their friends. Of course always bringing the dogs with them. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate name that reflected what is most important to us, our children and happy family life. So when we say “Back Brook” it brings back so many happy memories of our children growing up, Memories that can never be forgotten. It reflects who and what we are, a family run Kennel.
Back Brook Kennel formally started as a school project for our children. One of our sons wanted a dog of his own to love and to train. He named him “Nash” after “Nash Stream”, the first fishing hole he was taken to. After a short time one of our daughters decided she also wanted a dog to love and train of her own. She named her “Millie” after Millie!!! She just liked that name. Nash and Millie (the Old Folks), both black Labs, provided the whole family with much fun, joy, education, entertainment and a few litters of puppies. Our dog family grew because inevitably someone would fall in love with that special little puppy and we just had to keep it
We mentioned “formally started” because Both of us have many years of experience with breeding & training a variety of breeds. My husband spent many years training dogs specializing in bird hunting dogs. So long before the school project evolved, “Back Brook Kennel” was being established.
As our dog family grew so did a few other things. Different members of the family developed breathing problems as well as allergies. This eventually lead to prohibiting the dogs in the house for at first long periods of time and eventually to not at all. Feeling the absents of the dogs in the home got us investigating other options. That’s when we were introduced to the now popular Labradoodles. After a few years of exploring, studying and making inquiries about them. We decided to see if they would create or irritate the allergy problem and or breathing issues in the family. They did not!
We recognize everyone is different and different allergens cause different allergic reactions. So possibly a Labradoodle is not right for you. But we do encourage you to look into a Doodle. You may find you’ll be as delightfully surprised as we were!
